Nature's Wrath : Lightning - Tips To Stay Shielded From It (RARE VIDEO FOOTAGE)

Lightning knows no boundaries. It can strike anything and anyone at anytime and anywhere. Thus, we should make certain that we are safe and secured from a possible lightning strike. But first and foremost, let us share some interesting facts about lightning and its connection with thunder. Thunder is apparently said to be something that Science is still unable to comprehend till this day. It could be defined as an electrocuted wave resulted from the extremely fast heating and widening of the surrounding air within the lightning bolt.

The bolt transforms the air into plasma and immediately blasts, leading to formation of the sounds of thunder.

This occurrence takes place concurrently with the flash of lightning, but a thunderclap is normally heard subsequent to the appearance of lightning, as according to Science, the speed of light is greater than the speed of sound.

It has also been said that because sound and light move at diverse speeds through the environment, one can gauge the distance of the bolt of lightning by observing the time gap between the point when the flash can be seen and the point when the thunderclap can be heard. The velocity of sound in air is roughly 340 m/s, whereas the velocity of light is too great to be calculated. Hence, the lightning is more or less one kilometer away from the sound within every three seconds.

Those are the interesting facts about lightning that has pretty much explicate how lightning is formed and how it works its way in the natural environment. But one very important fact that all of us should take precaution of is that lightning is dangerous, inevitable, and can be fatal. So when it starts raining cats and dogs and the sky starts to turn cloudy, you should know very well that you would need to safeguard yourselves from the perils of lightning.

Let us take a look at a few ways for you to stay shielded from lightning strikes:

1. Basically you should stick to indoor sheltered areas. Cancel or postpone your outdoor activities. Lightning has the tendency to strike on opened areas or areas that have an abundance of trees and greeneries. So be careful not to walk past an opened area when the rain gets heavy!

2. Always opt for places that have tall buildings and shelters. Lightning only strikes on the tallest objects within that designated area, so if you were around there, you would most probably be safe from being struck.

Still, your safety would be better ensured if you take cover at any place where there are sufficient shelters.

3. Being sheltered from lightning does not guarantee 100% of your safety. Lightning can travel through items that use electricity like your telephones, computers and other electrical appliances. Refrain from bathing and using any electrical items when there is a huge thunderstorm taking place. If you notice that it is going to rain anytime soon, quickly remove the plugs of the electrical appliances, as it would be unsafe to remove them during the thunderstorm.

4. Check that your vehicle doors and windows are completely shut, and do not turn on the stereo when lightning appears as lightning can pass through stereos and, in worse cases, can cause a major explosion to your vehicle.

5. Take note of this one. Lightning recognizes places and people too! It can strike a place or someone more than once.

A park ranger from USA named Roy Sullivan was hit by lightning seven times within a time period of 35 years!

So if you have been struck by lightning before, then let that be the first and last time that you got struck.

The Famous White" Winnie The Pooh" Bear Alive

KnutPolar bears are probably the most adorable creatures of the world. Who can resist their white and fluffy fur and the way they move about in the cold winter?

They can sometimes resemble a snowman that can move. But there is definitely more to these grizzly bears that we should get to know about. The most prominent feature of the polar bears is the white fur, which is there for two reasons.

First of all, the fur provides warmth to them, which explicates why they are able to survive in extremely cold conditions in the Arctic. Secondly, the whiteness of the fur actually helps them to camouflage with the surrounding area, so that they will be safeguarded from hunters and enemies.

Besides the white fur, they also have short tails and tiny ears that apparently prevent loss of heat, and small heads and long conical bodies that allow them to swim in the waters. They will make good use of their stay under the cold conditions by hibernating, which actually helps them preserve much energy that they will need to survive in the cold.

These are the things that make polar bears one of the most distinctive creatures around. And Germany was the luckiest country in the world to have a polar bear living and breathing in their Berlin Zoo, which became a world phenomenon early this year. Yes, we are talking about Knut!

Knut was born on 5 December 2006 in Berlin Zoo. Its mother, Tosca, was a polar bear that used to be part of a circus act in Germany. Unfortunately, Tosca abandoned Knut on a rock at the polar bear compound. Knut was found and saved by zookeepers of the Berlin Zoo and has since been staying alive for more than thirty years.

Knut And ThomasFortunately for Knut, a zookeeper named Thomas Dörflein voluntarily took over its mother’s role of raising it up to where it is today. Thomas has been showing a tremendous amount of compassion for it by feeding it with sufficient cat food, vitamin food and bottles of milk. In fact, Thomas would even go to the extent of serenading Elvis Presley’s songs to put it to sleep. Kudos to Thomas for being an exceptionally kind zookeeper!

Knut finally made its public appearance at the Berlin Zoo on 23rd March 2007, being watched by thousands of visitors of the zoo, ranging from the young to the old. Tourists also came to view the antics of this unique creature, as well as a massive group of 400 journalists and reporters from all over the world. Thomas earned a spot as Germany’s household name, for being its caretaker.

Don’t Just Watch. Observe!

A meerkat standing on a rock. The problem with many of us here is that we make use of our eyes just to see or watch something.

But do you realize that we are granted with eyes for a better reason than that?

Our eyes are actually meant to observe rather than to just see or watch. It all comes together with the mind.

After all, the mind controls all the organs in your body system, including your eyes. If we just let our minds do the work without us making some effort to ‘mould’ our minds, that is when we will only view the surface of things.

When you watch a television program or a video, all you would do is watch, and eventually, you would not comprehend what you have just watched. When you are writing or typing something, all you would do is write or type it, and then find yourself creating spelling or grammatical errors. When you see someone doing something, all you would do is see it, without knowing whether he or she is doing the right thing.

On the other hand, if we can set our minds to work together with our eyes, we can be more observant of our surroundings. You would be able to understand the message behind the television show or video, take notice of the errors in your write-ups and immediately amend them, and judge someone’s actions and take actions whenever necessary.

Our minds can play tricks on us, but we have the willpower to avoid being tricked. Therefore, always set your minds to work well with your eyes, as that will contribute to your self-consciousness and intelligence in seeing the underlying messages behind something.

Now here is a little something that could probably test how observant you are. Everyone, sit back, relax, enjoy the show… and do not just watch. Observe!

Rare Prehistoric Frilled Shark Captured in Japan

Prehistoric Frilled Shark Captured in JapanIf you have extreme fear for sharks, think again. You have actually not seen the most fearsome of all sharks! Brace yourself for the mighty and ghastly Frilled Shark.

A frilled shark is no ordinary shark. It is prehistoric and has an exceptionally remarkable appearance.

It is believe to take up the body shape of a dark brown or grey eel, except that the body has six-gill slits, which sharks would normally have.

The reason behind the name of this unique creature is in the gill slits tissues that jut out from the slits. It has a massive body of two meters in length.

It is an ancient creature and has probably thought to be extinct, but on 21 January 2007, the world was in for surprise when a frilled shark was discovered in the waters of Japan, specifically near the Awashima Marine Park, which is located in Shizuoka, southwest of Tokyo.

It was a female frilled shark that was found by one of the staff working at the marine park. The 1.6 meter long shark was found to be ill, and afterwards was brought out of the water and transferred into a tank filled with salt water. It died hours after being caught.

Want to take a closer look at the frilled shark? Then do not miss out on this video footage of it!

The Award-Winning Cat – Oscar!

There was Tom the cat, then there was Felix the cat…now introducing… OSCAR the cat! But this is not another cartoon character, and it is no ordinary cat. It is a cat understood to have been blessed with a ‘supernatural power’. Yes, this feline is believed to have the power to predict deaths!

Oscar may not have the human ability to verbalize the date and time of the deaths, but it has a remarkable intuition no one can ever imagine. It actually approaches the person and sits beside him or her a few hours before he or she is formally pronounced dead.

This 2- year-old adorable feline was discovered and adopted by the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in US ever since it was a kitten.

It has been very helpful towards the nurses and doctors simply by curling up nearer to the patients whose lives were going to be taken away in less than four hours.

Nurses and doctors have become so habituated to its exceptional ability that the moment it turns up at the particular ward or bedside, they knew they had to call the family members and tell them to stay strong.

Family members of the deceased patients are not dispirited from the method that Oscar uses to convey the deaths, but instead, are very thankful to it for being a trusty companion during the patients’ last few hours of being alive. It was once notified to us before that animals like cats and dogs do possess an inkling that human beings do not possess.

But perhaps what this cat can do is such an amazing discovery ever made! So if you happen to see this cat below waiting by your doorstep, I suggest that you mentally and emotionally prepare yourself for a bad news. That bad news could be meant for somebody who is staying with you. Or maybe… it is meant for you…
