Happy 42nd Birthday Singapore!

9th Of August 2007...Singaporeans are counting the hours and minutes to the biggest event of our lives…. the birthday of our beloved country, Singapore!

She had endured tormenting moments in the past during the World War II. Her greatest warriors had gone through bloodshed and sacrificed their loved ones and their lives to fight for her well being. As the saying goes, cry now and laugh later. After all the misfortunes that she had to put up with, she finally gained independence on 9th August 1965, and over the years, emerged as the hub for large corporations, leisure purposes and the most prestigious arts events. Singapore had progressed significantly from a small island to the center of worldwide attraction.

She has developed into a flourishing hub for business and trade. With the growth in her manufacturing industry, she has become the busiest harbour internationally, welcoming over 600 shipping containers into her shores. Her business network with foreign corporations has stretched so far, that she is now the main center for oil refining and distribution, business deals and the banking sector which comprises 130 banks in total.

She has also pulled the heartstrings of tourists with her exciting attractions. Her attractions depict her history, her multi-cultural society, and her distinctive image. The most prominent of all is Sentosa, which serves to restore the unforgettable history that had since shaped her heritage and multi-cultural image. Alongside Sentosa are the Singapore National Museum, The Arts Museum, The Sultan Mosque, Chinatown, Little India and Fort Canning Park.

But just a few years back, included in the list of her influential attractions is the Esplanade – Theatres On The Bay, the center for the arts! Since the establishment on 12th October 2002 at the central area of the country, it has gained local and international recognition with the most prestigious arts events being held. Recently, it became the host for award-winning Broadway Musicals like West Side Story and Phantom Of The Opera, local productions and concerts, and the biggest music and dance festivals such as the Singapore Arts Festival. Since its opening, it has managed to grab the attention of a huge influx of tourists, directors, producers and even the famous artistes who are topping the charts in the music and entertainment industry.

Singapore would not be where she is today…if not for all Singaporeans who have stood together hand in hand for 42 years to uphold her good name. So Singaporeans, let us all give her our fullest support. We at NAFASG are very proud to call her our homeland. There is no place we would rather be…but here in our beloved Singapore.

Happy 42nd Birthday Singapore!
