Stroke: Symptoms And Preventive Measures To Take
Smiling, raising both arms and saying a short and sweet sentence like ‘I love you’…These things can actually be done effortlessly, but for a certain group of people, doing these things can be much harder than we thought. They are the people who are diagnosed with one of the diseases that can strike at anytime and anywhere…stroke.
There are two ways that a stroke can strike on you. One is when the blood circulation is blocked either by blood clots or contracted blood vessels, which will lead to ischemic stroke. The other is when one of the blood vessels rip apart, leading to hemorrhagic stroke. Stroke can arise due to insufficient nutrient absorption by the brain cells, which can cause them to die and result in unstable and diminishing sensory and thinking, loss of sight, and obscurities in speaking and moving.
People with health complications like high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as smokers and alcoholics, are more likely prone to this disease.
Henceforth, we ought to educate ourselves not only on the causes of stroke, but also, the symptoms and the essential ways to prevent ourselves from it.
Let us recognize the common symptoms of stroke:
1. Your leg, arm or face begins to feel anesthetized. You cannot feel anything when someone touches you on any of those parts of your body. This feeling usually occurs on one side of the body.
2. You begin to have difficulties comprehending and speaking articulately.
3. Your vision darkens bit by bit, either on one or both eyes.
4. You abruptly suffer from headache, not knowing the reason behind it.
5. Your body feels unhinged and you begin to feel giddy.
With that in mind, we should take preventive measures so that we would not be at risk of getting stroke. Here are the following steps that you can take to get yourself protected from it:
1. Maintain your blood pressure at a favorable level. Do go for checkups as regularly as you can and seek for ways to lower your blood pressure if need be. Reducing of blood pressure can cut down on the risk of getting stroke.
2. Quit smoking. Refraining from cigarettes can prevent you from getting stroke too easily.
3. Exercise frequently, because it can make way for better blood circulation and strengthen our heart. It can also help to burn the fats and calories in our body and reduce some weight as well. On the other hand, do not exercise too vigorously. Carry out reasonable forms of exercises like walking, cycling and swimming.
4. Improve on your eating habits by incorporating more fruits and vegetables in your diet. Juices are also an ideal alternative as long as they are freshly peeled.
5. Manage your diabetes if you are diagnosed with it, because improper treatment of diabetes can destroy your blood vessels, thus destroying your blood circulation.
So together, let us battle against stroke starting from today, simply by eating in moderation, and staying fit and in the pink of health. -Nafa Danfad

One of the measures that seems to help stroke and mini stroke prevention is atorvastatin treatment. A recent study with over 2,000 elderly patients who had suffered a recent mini stroke or stroke, found that atorvastatin treatment significantly reduced their risk of having a repeat event.
